New Packs Released: French Artillery Green, Chinese Military Green, & Japanese Warship GreyThree new packs have been released - one which was previously requested by skaianDestiny: French Artillery Green, and two surprises I've been working on: Chinese Military Green and Japanese Warship Grey. These have been in the works for quite some time now, but I finally had enough time to finish them off and release them this weekend. Check them out below! Also, an important note on these packs: both the Chinese and Japanese packs include camouflage paint enabled on the chassis wheels of all vehicles which had their color swapped, and all three support a whole host of Milkym4n's mods! New Category: Vehicle ModsI've added another category to the site: Vehicle Mods! This will be the place for things like remodels, skin removals for tanks with clown camo, and so on. Of course, it wouldn't really be worth adding a new category if there wasn't anything to put there, so I've released a couple of mods for 0.9.17.1 - the Firefly IIIC (a remodel for the Firefly which replaces the Firefly's standard cast hull with the Sherman III's welded M4A2 hull), and the Defender Skin Removal (which does what it says... and some more, if you so choose). The Sherman mod was an old remodel I had made a while ago, but after a while, I stopped updating it. I've come back and re-done the model swap for patch 0.9.17.1 with a fix for the suspension bug which happened on the older versions of the mod, as well as new icons to match. The Defender Skin Removal was requested by MatchyHK from The Armored Patrol, since they bought the Defender only to realize they didn't like the skin after all. I've also included some other optional add-ons in the mod, which you can check out below. (One thing to note: The preview screenshots of the Firefly IIIC remodel show it in my British Olive Green, but the remodel uses the default textures from both vehicles, so if you don't have the Olive Green pack installed, it will show up in the standard British tan color.) Packs Updated: USSR 4Bo-1 Green & Japanese Reddish-BrownBoth the USSR 4BO-1 Green & Japanese Reddish-Brown packs have received updates. To start with, the 4BO-1 pack has been completely-overhauled - the color replacement threshold has been lowered, since before, too much of the vehicle was painted. This ended up messing with a lot of the details on the vehicle, including tools, logs, and other odds-and-ends. Now, these details should be retained, while still applying the color to the rest of the vehicle. Here's a couple of screenshots for comparison (sadly, from different game versions / in different hangars, since I couldn't get a screenshot of the old color in the current version): Secondly, as with the Warship Grey pack, all vehicles included the Japanese Reddish-Brown pack have now received the addition of enabled camouflage paint on their chassis wheels, and a second add-on emblem has been... well, added as an option, if you choose to use it. Here's a couple previews of both emblem options, for visual reference: Again, these are both entirely-optional, and are included as add-ons in the pack if you like them. If you don't want to replace them, you don't have to! Progress on Upcoming PacksBeyond this, I will be continuing work on what I wrote out towards the bottom of last week's post. Currently, here's how things are progressing with some of these packs. (Note: didn't have enough progress on the Finnish pack to show it yet, but it's still in the works. Don't worry, I'll continue working on it after the new Hungarian pack is released.) - Hungarian Factory Green (rework of Forest Green): I am currently working with Deviantart user beczl on skins for the Turan III (P) and Toldi III, with more historical emblems and markings made by him and the color redone by me. Credit (and huge thanks) to beczl for providing these - the skins on the Toldi and Turan were pretty much completely-finished as they were, and only needed a couple of small adjustments and the historical Factory Green color to be applied. Also, thanks to SovietTenkDestroyer and Karika for their contributions (mainly providing reference photos and historical info, including the color name). The pack is almost ready for re-releasing (I just need to check with beczl first, since he provided the base skins), though I may add skins to some other vehicles historically serviced by Hungary as an add-on as well (including the Pz. 38 (t), Pz. III, and Panther). Here's a couple of previews, in the meantime: - Romanian Vehicle Pack: After lots of consulting with SovietTenkDestroyer and recreating a few Romanian emblems from some photos he provided, I'm finally beginning work on the Romanian Vehicle Pack as well. Not as much to be said here, but I'll leave you with a few preview images in the meantime: Those of you who are interested in Romanian armor history, follow The Armored Patrol, or both, may recognize the tank on the far right as the R35/T-26, which eventually led to the Vânătorul De Care R-35 - an upgrade to the Renault R35 which would mount the 45mm gun from the Soviet T-26 (with the R35/T-26 having the same idea, except with the T-26's larger turret replacing the R35's standard one). If I can get the colors to match correctly (the R35's hull is textured in a different way than the T-26's turret, so it isn't as simple as I was hoping), this will likely make it into the pack - in case you want to keep your R35's standard turret, this will be made an optional add-on. More info on both of these packs (and more) coming soon, as usual, so stay tuned. Everything ElseThere's a couple things relating to the German Neue Dunkelgelb pack that I wanted to mention. To start, I think I'm happy with how the color turned out this time around; however, I'm not liking how the weathering (dirt/dust/etc.) blends very closely with it. Some of you have expressed that you actually like it that way, so I think I'll leave the current pack how it is; however, I'm considering adding an alternate version of the pack (completely-separate from the current one) with a more muddy, battle-worn appearance. To demonstrate what I'm talking about, here are a few preview images (click to enlarge): Again, keep in mind - this is still a heavy work-in-progress, including the name (kampferprobt - "battle-tested", by the way), and everything is subject to change. Feel free to comment what you think of it, and if you have any suggestions/feedback, by all means, let me know! On the other hand, however, I'm beginning to notice a recurring issue: a lot of small details are getting painted over, including minor details like the spare tracks, but also more important ones, i.e. the headlight glass or even the viewports on a wide number of vehicles. For this, I'm currently trying to find a way to fix this issue without screwing up the color or having to manually-edit the textures of every single vehicle - which I simply don't have the time, effort, or hard drive space to do - but if this isn't possible, I'll just fix these details manually on a smaller number of vehicles, which will be mainly limited to the ones I like/play a lot (i.e. VK 45.02 A, Panther, Sturer Emil, etc.) and more popular German vehicles (i.e. the Luchs, Tiger II, E 75, etc.). I'll let you know as things progress.
Oh boy, that post got a bit long, didn't it? Well, uh... sorry for the wall of text; hopefully it wasn't too confusing to navigate/read. I also feel like I'm forgetting something, but I can't remember what... oh well, if I remember, I'll save it for the next update. Enjoy, stay tuned for more, and happy tanking!
